It's time for a change

Well lots have happened since the 7 day detox that we did together. As I have shared I was considering myself “veganish” because I occasionally had dairy, fish, and shhhh lamb. The crazy thing about the lamb part is when I was a “meat eater” I couldn’t STAND lamb…so strange.

Anyway as much as I love not being so “rigid” (a plant based lifestyle doesn't have to be rigid, I was just like that with myself) I’m noticing I do not feel my best. The full plant based lifestyle REALLY works great for me. I feel my absolute best, I have great energy; I look my best, everything just coincides together perfectly.

So I've been praying about what to do because I have felt like this for a while. Sure I’m happy to allow myself more flexibility but fully knowing that I don’t feel or look my best I know some changes need to be made BUT I want to be realistic with them. I now have a plan that I’m VERY excited about:
  •        Starting next week I will be going fully raw- end date Apr 1

o   I felt my ABSOLUTE BEST when I was raw. Now realistically this is not a full time lifestyle- it messed up my teeth (more on that another time but check out http://www.fredericpatenaude.com/ he shares a lot about the raw vegan lifestyle and the effects on the teeth. I didn't believe it but man I learned the hard way when I went to the dentist.
  •     After that I plan to lead a majority plant based lifestyle-

o   Meaning if I want sporadically I will have fish etc. BUT eating mostly plants and many raw plants is my plan of action. I want the love for it that I felt before I started allowing myself more freedom so that’s what I plan to be praying about during my raw journey

So stick with me as I update on how things are going. I’m excited and nervous! It’s been kind of fun going to restaurants and not just ordering sides or salads because they are not fully vegan friendly BUT I’m looking forward to the challenge.
Signed,

Excited, Scared, but READY

Chicken Chicken Chicken and MORE CHICKEN!!!

Why is it such a big deal?

So what’s the big deal with eating chicken? All this fuss about steroids, antibiotics and the “supposed” affects it has on people specifically women: fibroids, earlier start of menstruation cycle, people becoming immune to medication, and many more things. Let’s look a little deeper to discuss what is safe for you.

Why the need for antibiotics and steroids?

As we all know, the world is growing. With growth comes more of a demand for supply. The normal growth cycle for animals, and plants, takes too long when it comes to supplying the consumer. If you notice pretty much everywhere there is a chicken shop and a burger joint on every corner. Not to mention McDonalds,
Chick Fil-A, Wendy’s and the like. So where do they get all of their meats from so quickly? You guessed it- injecting animals so they quickly grow. These growth hormones are placed in their foods or injected in their bodies.

Now in theory it makes absolute sense- more people means the need for more food so why not come up with a quick solution that satisfies everyone? Well it gets much deeper than that.  These antibiotics and steroids- while they help supply more chicken and other foods- are not safe when eaten in abundance as well as while it “seems” this is done for the consumer- it’s really all about the money. Supplying meats quicker means more money and so by any means necessary this must be done. This article will not go into the politics of this process but just understand when it is said these chemicals are safe, it’s not being said for your well-being, it’s being said so you will continue to buy it!

Check out this short video on chickens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enwU5jIXSlU

There are cases of people now becoming immune to antibiotics because it is already in their systems from the chicken, and other meats.  Doctors are now beginning to advise women who have cyst or are prone to fibroids to cut back on chicken or at least begin consuming meats and produce without the use of antibiotics and steroids. Studies are even being done to see if these growth hormones need to be removed altogether because as mentioned  people are beginning to become immune to prescribed antibiotics since it is already in their system. Studies are also showing that growth chemicals used in dairy rBST while deemed safe, when interacting with other chemicals in the body then promote the growth of cancer.

So What Now?

This is why it’s so important to understand what to purchase. As discussed in a few articles, yes healthier food options may cost more but your health is priceless! So here are the best options to remove these growth hormones as much as possible:
1.
  1.      Buy organic or locally grown meats and other products- both do not have antibiotics and hormones
  2.         Look for dairy products that say- organic or not treated rBST hormones
  3.     Eat less fast foods- unless organic ALL of the meats, produce, and dairy are treated with antibiotics, hormones, and pesticides
  4.         Eat out less altogether- as mentioned unless the restaurant is organic or supplies locally grown foods, it is probably stocked full of yuckiness (sorry to be so blunt but it’s the truth). So it’s best to eat more home cooked foods

So hopefully this article at least has you thinking of some immediate changes that you can make for you and your family if you have one. It’s time to start thinking proactively instead of reactively. We do not have to wait for a doctor’s report to make some changes let’s make those changes NOW!!

Last Day of the Detox!!!

We MADE It!!!!!!

Wow I'm really excited! First I cannot tell you how humbled I am that so many people entrusted my program to help lead them to healthier lifestyles. I have had the opportunity to meet and hear so many wonderful things about how people are feeling and I am so excited!!! I really feel great and am going to continue with this plant based detox. Even though I have been doing this for years, it still amazes me how just changing what I eat makes SUCH a difference. It's so simple and yet so difficult. Again that mind body connection has to get in sync.

So I do hope everyone else plans on continuing or incorporating some of these tools into their lives. Your body and mind really will respond in a positive way.  I'll keep you updated on how things are going!!

Oh! Tonight 8 pm there will be a Put YOU First teleconference, even if you didn't detox, feel free to call in and grow with us!

Conference #  1-712-432-3011 and the Code: 884813

Detox Day 5

Day 5

Wow I can't believe the days are going by so quickly!! This detox is 7 days and we are already on day 5!!!! Wow! Well I'm feeling great and am actually considering extending this longer. This detox is helping put things in perspective for me. It's so simple yet so difficult. I feel SOOOO much better when I eat things that my body loves. It's my mind that I have to convince of that. Especially on the weekends when my husband and I want to hang out and enjoy the fact that it's the weekend. I want to eat what I want and enjoy....but I always end up paying for it in the end. So in this detox my plan is to find a happy balance. I don't necessarily want to be as strict on myself as I was in the past, even though that's when I felt my best, and at the same time I don't want to be fancy free and footloose ( I really wasn't that bad but for me I could have been much better).

Time to use these next few days to get my mind and body on the same page. Happy DETOXING!!!

Alkalize to Survive

Our bodies thrive off of the cells that build our tissues and organs. When these cells are given oxygen, they grow and multiply into more healthy cells. When oxygen is taken away, the being to multiply and form unhealthy cells, tumors, and even worse disease.

We can do our part to prevent this by ensuring we create an alkaline environment for our bodies. Cells thrive and love this type of place- it’s paradise for them!  All of our bodies have what is called a Ph balance ranging from 0-14. The ideal Ph of our bodies is 7.0 which we will discuss further.

The easiest way to understand what an alkalized environment vs an acidic environment looks like is to imagine nice cool calm water that flows beautifully in a peaceful stream vs huge high waves that come crashing down tearing apart whatever is around in a tsunami. Which would you prefer to have going on in your body?

Let’s look more specifically at why an alkalized environment is so important:

1.       An acidic environment promotes and eventually creates disease- think back to the crashing waves- if it continues to crash down it begins to wear away important things and destruct. An acidic environment takes oxygen away from your cells which are the basis of our lives. Once oxygen is taken away, the cells begin to die and form tumors that may become malignant in other words cancer.

a.       Acidic foods also contribute to

                                                               i.      Heart disease

                                                             ii.      High Cholesterol

                                                            iii.      Strokes

                                                           iv.      Diabetes

                                                             v.      Multiple Sclerosis

                                                           vi.      Arthritis

2.       An acidic environment leaves you feeling sluggish, depressed, unhappy, and unhealthy

a.       Having a continuous acidic environment weighs down on your systems- using products that are not natural- breathing in unhealthy toxins even in your home, and eating acidic foods all contribute to this and may also affect your sleep.

3.       Finally an acidic environment may eventually lead to death- consistently eating acidic foods, and leading an acidic lifestyle- allowing stress, using harmful products, not getting enough rest just to name  a few all may contribute to an untimely demise that can be prevented

But guess what?!? There is great news! We can prevent, and possibly even reverse everything that was mentioned above simply by making lifestyle changes. Here are a few ways that we can start even after reading this article:

·         Stop eating at least 3 hours before you go to bed

·         Get adequate rest

·         Eat more foods that are alkalizing vs acidic here are a few

o   Alkalizing-

§  Root Vegetables-such as beets and carrots- the easiest way is to juice or blend them so you get the raw live enzymes immediately into your blood stream

§  Cruciferous vegetables- such as broccoli and cabbage- you can easily add them to your salad or lightly steam them

§  Fruits- any and all fruits- except dried fruits

§  Water

·         Eat less acidic foods-

o   The easiest way to remember that is the SAD diet- the standard American diet. If you eat grits, bacon, and eggs for breakfast, a hamburger or turkey sandwich for lunch with chips and a pickle, spaghetti for dinner whole grain or not, maybe a side salad, and in the morning you have had coffee more than not, I can tell you right now your body is acidic. Even if you add an apple in here and there, that is still not enough to create an alkalizing environment.

o   Your daily meals should consist of mostly fruits, veggies and plant based foods with all the others items thrown in occasionally.

·         Work on less stress- not letting your environment affect you.  This may sound easier said than done but it is definitely worth a try if your health is at risk. Proverbs 3:5-6, 1 Peter 5:7 if you read the Bible are great scriptures to start with  and of course quiet time, and prayer  are great way to alleviate stress.

·         Work to eliminate using harmful products on your skin and in cleaning- all of these things seep into our skin and go directly to our blood stream which eventually can affect our organs- anything environmentally safe is fine for cleaning. Skin and hair care products should not have parabens and many other things here is a website that will help: http://lotionsecrets.com/glossaryharmful.html  and too make things even easier- coconut oil, olive oil, and shea butter are great moisturizers that may be used all should be cold pressed

This may probably seem to be a lot for people who feel they have made healthy changes but if you begin to make these above changes you will most definitely see changes over a period of time. Choose a few at a time and make gradual changes but do your best to allow your body to stay in an alkalized state.

Challenge: Start alkalizing to survive today!! Make gradual changes you WILL feel a difference!
For some alkalizing recipes check the below website under the recipes tab.
Remember: It's not a diet....it's a lifestyle

I feel freakin GREAT!!!!!!

I feel GOOD!!!

WOW!! Words cannot explain just how good I feel! As I reflect, I have to reference a previous blog I wrote in which I set several goals for myself. Please see below with updates:

1.    Vegan-am

2.    Majority raw foods-somewhat- RAW VEGAN NOW!!!!

3.    No processed foods- pretty close

4.    No GMO's-working on- pretty close

5.    Make all food- pretty close

6.    Garden-future

7.    Juice Fast – done and will do again

8.    Cookbook/book-future- working on

These above goals basically list what I have accomplished and what I wanted to work on. So let me update you……I am now a raw vegan!! That means that I do not eat foods that are cooked above 105 degrees to keep the enzymes intact insuring my body is receiving all of the enzymes and nutrients. I have been reading this book called Living on Live Food by Allisa Cohen and I’m telling you this book has made me completely change my thinking as far as food is concerned. Not only that, I cannot express enough how GOOD I FEEL!!!! Let me list some things that have changed for me:

·         Every morning Mon-Fri I wake up at 5:30am and workout with my husband. I am not tired, I’m actually excited to get up and get it done.

·         I look forward to the day, I no longer press snooze on my alarm clock but am up and wide awake.

·         I appreciate nature, I notice the green of trees, I hear the birds, I desire to be outside

·         I need less sleep.

·         I am in a better mood overall.

·         I value my relationship with God more and really appreciate Him for who He is and just His overall awesomeness.

·         I really appreciate my husband and my love for him has grown. I have less attitudes and feel a stronger sense of admiration and respect for him.

·         MEN IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE LOOK AWAY FOR THE NEXT TWO BULLETS!!!-

·         MY CYCLE IS SOOOOOO LIGHT AND ONLY LAST MAYBE 3 DAYS. I MEAN LIGHT TO THE POINT THAT I DON’T EVEN HAVE TO WEAR ANYTHING TO PROTECT MYSELF MOST TIMES. I have had the same bag of “materials” for months!! For this reason alone, I won’t go back LOL!

·         I went from a 40G when I first started on my health journey years ago to a 34(I leave the cup size out for respect of my husband) but I can get PRETTY bra colors now not just nude and black which are the only color options for well-endowed women.

·         I’ve gone down two dress sizes

·         I actually LIKE the way I look in bathing suits.

I can go on and on but I think you get the idea. Do I crave cooked food? Yes. I actually had a few tortilla chips with some guacamole and made some popcorn the other day so let’s say I’m 99.9% raw. But even in and through those cravings, I feel too good to turn back. I am also finding new and fun things to cook. I am learning more about myself and life and am just plan happy!

Just wanted to share the good news with you all!!

Do I have more than one level?

So ya'll know at this point that I am a radical healthy person. I am CONSTANTLY taking things health wise to the next level but in that I have to wonder....is that all that I am about? Am I that one dimensional that people see me as only the crazy healthy woman? I have to reflect because something very interesting happened today at work:

My coworker and I are doing a juice cleanse. We blend fruits and vegetables together and drink them for our breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The goal is to do this for one month. Now we only have the teacher's lounge to blend in so of course when people enter they are curious. There are a few people who just don't seem interested in nutrition, eating healthy, making changes etc. Sidebar: while we all have things to work on, from a nutritional standpoint it bothers me greatly that these particular woman don't care because they are overweight and have some health issues. One has great trouble coming down the stairs because of the pressure the additional weight she carries puts on her knees, and the other has blood clots and is continuously gaining weight. Day in and day out I watch them bring in fast food, fried food, processed food etc. I have said a few things when I felt it would be received and when I saw that it was no longer received, I left it alone. And those that know me know that I am not judging, I am just genuinely concerned about them.

So now that you have some background knowledge, today one of the women came in and immediately turned the TV on in the room. The TV is NEVER on and I knew that doing that was a guise to keep us from discussing anything dealing with nutrition and to distract others that may want to know what was going on with us. They then carried on their own conversation, and I could just feel the negative energy throughout the room. At first I was offended and I made a plan:1. Post something on FB about it 2. Hide the remote 3. Talk to others NOT addressing the person about it in a negative way.

Of course being a mature Christian, I knew that was not the answer and I do actually plan on going to ask them how they feel. I was going to confront the issue, but now I am curious about their side of the story. Maybe when they see me, they are annoyed that all I talk about is health, am always happy, and really don't discuss anything else other than church(health ministry, sometimes God), summer camp(health summer camp), and my personal life(how my husband deals w/ me being so healthy). Notice in all of those were the word HEALTH! Maybe they have insecurities and by me always talking about health, they feel like all eyes are on them. I don't know but I'm just trying to be reflective in my thoughts.

That leads me to take a closer look at myself, am I really THAT one dimensional that all I have to talk about is health? I realize this is my calling, my passion, my love, but their are many other things that I am about. First and foremost the will of God- that's another thing- while it is good, that is my second most talked about thing- the dreams I have, God dealing with me, praying, spiritual warfare, etc., etc., and while I say it's the second it is truly the first because I believe my calling to heal is to guide others closer to God and their purpose....there I go AGAIN!!! Let me get back to what else there is about me:

Hmmmm I LOVE to laugh,I LOVE making others laugh, I LOVE hanging out, I LOVE the beach and nature(to an extent, I am not camping lol), I LOVE LOVE LOVE my husband and my family, I LOVE my dog, I LOVE meeting new people, I LOVE interior decorating and house projects, I LOVE the idea of being a mother and can't wait to build a family, I LOVE when someone else is blessed, I can go on and on but I am already starting to feel better. There are more things to me than just health, I just have to take the time to intentionally make them known both verbally and non verbally.

So I'm setting a goal for myself: I will begin to show others and myself that there are more things to me than just health...starting RIGHT NOW!! Thank you for your time and attention!

Yours NOT just in health,
Nakeesha, the beach lover lol

Time to get it together!

Soooo I'm noticing that I'm becoming a unhealthy vegan. Partly because of boredom, and partly because of lack of planning and self control. Maybe not unhealthy in most eyes but in my eyes, I definitely need to step my game up. Processed foods, fries, fried vegetables, and bread have been on my plate for a while now. I know that doesn't sound horrible, but for me it is not good at all.

Yesterday I ate at two places: Cracker Barrel and Buffalo Wild Wings- both places scream "if you're vegan run!!!" But nonetheless, I was with my family and my friends so I went. Normally every morning I start off with water, raw juice, and then fruit. The past couple of days it has been bread, or something that I normally don't begin with and I KNOW this is not healthy. For breakfast I had sourdough bread french toast and potatoes. For dinner I had fried onion rings, fries, chips and salsa, and of course I had to throw a salad in there, still no meat or animal products but not great either.

I think it all began with the Superbowl. I found all of these vegan dishes to make and they ended up being REALLY good- veggie pizza(my own recipe), nachos and cheese, corn muffins, chili, cupcakes, and cookies all vegan. Not to mention my famous mixture of juices. It was all soooo good even our company didn't know it was vegan! I just kept eating and eating and eating annnnddd eating. Before that, I really was just eating raw foods and some occasional cooked stuff and since then I have been going crazy! Drinking with my foods, just going overboard with my eating style and it kind of stuck.

Again I know this may not sound crazy but for me I feel like I am the example not just for others but for myself. I know what has been working for my body and my health, and when I fall off it's hard for me to get it back together BUT there's good news.....Lent is right around the corner and yes I participate in Lent.

So starting Tuesday- no processed foods at ALL, majority raw foods, and back to the way I was eating when I first started out along with some other spiritual things. I'm looking forward to growing and getting back to the extra healthy vegan that I started off as.

Keep me in your prayers!
